Space Marines

The Space Marines

Some of The Emperor of Man's finest creations. Super-human warriors encased in power armour, carrying the best weapons the Imperium can provide, the Space Marines were created by the Emperor and are bred for battle.
Originally twenty beings known as Primarchs were created from the Emperor's own genes. These demigods were the true 'sons' of the Emperor and each harboured a particular aspect of humanity and their father. These Primarchs were followed by the Space Marines who, in turn, were created from each of their genes. Each Primarch would lead a Legion of these superhumans, usually over 10,000 strong, which were made using their gene-seed. Initially created for the Great Crusade to take the Galaxy for humanity, the Space Marines are nigh unbeatable warriors with skill beyond measure. However, since the Horus Heresy, which saw half the Legions rebel and turn to Chaos, the Space Marines have been broken down into smaller, more flexable, Chapters. These Chapters are exempt from the bureaucratic Council of Terra and are completely autonomous. They now serve to protect humanity against vile xenos and heretics including the traitors they once called brothers
